ECOED aims to integrate outdoor education, environmental education and conservation in Hawke’s Bay and is able to offer the following kiwi experiences and tours.
School and general public kiwi experiences
Tuesdays from December–July
Includes a talk about North Island Brown Kiwi and the ‘Save Our Kiwi Hawke’s Bay’ Project and an opportunity to see a kiwi chick.*

Kiwi crèche discovery tours
Groups of 10–30 by appointment from December–July
One-hour guided tour around Lake Opouahi followed by a detailed talk about North Island Brown Kiwi and the ‘Save Our Kiwi Hawke’s Bay’ project and an opportunity to see a kiwi chick.*

* While all endeavours are made to have a kiwi chick to show at the kiwi talks this is not guaranteed as occasionally our volunteers are unable to catch a chick in time.
Getting to the kiwi crèche
The kiwi crèche is situated at Lake Opouahi Scenic Reserve, 9km inland from Tutira on the Napier to Wairoa highway (SH2), about 1 hour's drive from Napier.
What to bring
Bring walking shoes, sunblock, warm clothing and picnic lunch.

Water is available from a tap on the fence behind the shelter
